Itinerary - 5 Night Luxury Holiday by Air + Rail

Day 1

London to Zurich

Take the Eurostar to Paris and then change onto the TGV Lyria line towards Switzerland, zipping through France at speeds of up to 320 kph and arriving into Zurich in time for dinner. Check in at the traditional and fantastically located Schweizerhof Hotel for your overnight stay.

Spend an evening exploring the nightlife of this vibrant lakeside city. Have a drink in the lovely cobbled streets of the Niederdorf (old town) or enjoy a good meal in one of the many restaurants along the River Limmat.

Day 2

Zurich to Florence

After breakfast, take the train from Zurich to Milan (journey time approximately 3 hours 40 minutes) and then on to Florence. The route of this spectacular journey follows the shores of Lake Lucerne before plunging through the Gotthard Pass. Travel down through high mountain passes, wide green valleys and alpine villages perched precariously on the hillsides. Look out for a glimpse of Lake Lugano as you cross the border into Italy at Chiasso.

On arrival to the Santa Maria Novella station in Florence, check in at the Santa Maria Novella Hotel for your overnight stay.

Capital of Tuscany and birthplace of the Italian language as it is spoken today, Florence is not only a beautiful city, but also one of the most important in the cultural history of Europe. Get a bird’s eye view from the top of Giotto’s bell tower, spend an afternoon exploring the amazing art collections at the Uffizi or Pitti Palace galleries or take some time out in the stunning Boboli Gardens.

Day 3

Florence to Positano

Travel through the Italian countryside from Florence to Naples (journey time approximately 3 hours) weaving through the Tuscan countryside, through the Eternal City of Rome and onwards to the capital of Campania, Naples.

From here, you have many alternatives to travel to Positano. From Napoli Centrale train station take the Circumvesuviana local train (payable locally - journey time approximately 45 minutes) from Naples to Sorrento. From here take the local bus (payable locally-journey time approximately 45 minutes) to Positano which leaves once an hour. Alternatively, in the summer season you are able to travel the beautiful journey from Naples or Sorrento to Positano by boat. Private boats and hydrofoils operate throughout the day offering a stunning entrance to the Amalfi Coast. Please call our travel consultants for further details.

Days 4 and 5

Positano

The town of Positano is a confection of peach, lemon and butterscotch houses jostling for position on a steep hillside leading down to picturesque shingle beach dotted with fishing boats.

The attractions here are all accessible on foot via winding narrow roads and stairs. For great views of the town and coastline, take a stroll along the Via Positanesi d’America, a cliffside pathway which connects the beaches of Spiaggia del Fornillo and Spiaggia Grande. Enjoy a refreshing drink on the beachfront and watch the world go by. Or climb up to the Collegiata di Santa Maria Assunta, a beautiful old church with a distinctive dome, decorated with majolica tiles.

You can also take a ferry from here to islands in the Bay of Naples. Visit Ischia for its volcanic thermal spas, golden beaches and great food. You can also reach the smaller but more well-known island of Capri. Climb up from the harbour to the old town on a funicular railway or take a boat out to see the famous Blue Grotto.

Day 6

Positano to London
