Itinerary - 4 Night Holiday by Rail

Day 1

London to Aix En Provence

Travel by Eurostar from London to Paris, which takes approximately 2 hours 15 minutes. Transfer on to the high speed TGV through glorious French countryside and quaint villages to Aix En Provence. The train takes approximately 3 hours. On arrival check in for your 2 night stay at the Aquabella Hotel Aix En Provence.

Day 2

Aix En Provence

Explore the city of Aix En Provence at your own leisure. Take time to visit the sights of this ancient Celtic city dating back to the 3rd Century AD . Stroll down the tree-lined avenue of Cours Mirabeau taking time for a "grandes crèmes" coffee at Les Deux Garcons café or a visit to one of the many bookshops lining the streets.
Alternatively visit the old town (Vieille Ville) of Aix En Provence or the Mazarin District packed with shops, markets, museums, architectural masterpieces and plenty of charming fountains for which Aix En Provence is famous. Remember to stop at one of the numerous markets in the city for fresh flowers and tasty local produce.

Day 3

Aix En Provence to Avignon

Travel on the TGV train from Aix En Provence to Avignon. This train runs approximately every hour and 30 minutes from Aix En Provence TGV station and takes 20 minutes. Passing olive and lemon groves on your way, enjoy a taste of the Côtes du Rhône landscape before arriving in Avignon TGV station and taking the short transfer to the centre of town.

On arrival check in for your 2 night stay at the Mercure Cité de Papes Hotel.

Day 4

Avignon

Spend two days in the fascinating and atmospheric city of Avignon. Visit the impressive three acre Palace of the Popes built in the 14th Century. Explore the nearby Petit Palais and Palais du Roure museums as well as the city's thriving street scene. Take your time to wander through the ancient streets and courtyards of private mansions before relaxing with a glass of local wine in one of the fantastic restaurants Avignon has to offer.

Day 5

Avignon to London

Sit back and enjoy the journey back to Paris via TGV train and then catch the Eurostar back to London.

Avignon is a beautiful medieval walled city in the heart of Provence. The centre is dominated by the huge, Gothic Palais des Papes, the seat of Catholic popes during the 14th century. Wander the lovely streets of the old centre which are full of artists’ galleries, visit the colourful outdoor market on the Place Pie or come during July when the city hums with thousands of visitors to its annual, massive theatre festival.
