Once capital of the historic Duchy of Lorraine, Nancy has a wealth of 18th century grand architecture and strong links to the Art Nouveau movement. Any visit has to start at the impressive UNESCO World Heritage listed Place Stanislas, named for a former Duke of Lorraine. There are also some interesting museums including the fascinating Musée de l’Ecole de Nancy.

Nancy was once the capital of Lorraine and is situated on the banks of the River Meurthe. Nancy combines beautiful classical 18th century architecture, the narrow streets of the medieval city and the modern university city with a buzzing nightlife.
Nancy is approximately 3 hours by train from Paris
Place Stanislas
Place Stanislas is the heart of Nancy and was created in the 18th century by the last of the Dukes de Lorraine - Stanislas Leszczynski. The square stands between the old and new town areas of Nancy. Look out for the statue of Stanislas in the centre of the square, and the impressive Hôtel de Ville on the south side of the square.
Musée des Beaux-Arts (Fine Arts Museum)
Nancy's Musée des Beaux-Arts includes works from Western Europe from the 15th-20th centuries. Included in the collection are paintings by Rubens, Delacroix, Manet, and Picasso, sculptures, and glassware. The museum is just off Place Stanislas.
Musée Lorrain
The Musée Lorrain is housed in the Duke's Palace in the old town area of Nancy. The museum covers the history of Lorraine, including engravings by the 17th century Nancy born artist Callot, tapestries, archeology and sculptures.
Ecole de Nancy (School of Nancy) Museum
Nancy was one of the major centres of the art nouveau movement in the 19th century. The Ecole de Nancy Museum includes glassware, ceramics, wood work, leather objects and furniture by artists from Nancy and Paris.
Musée de Zoologie (Natural History Museum and Aquarium)
Nancy's Natural History Museum and Aquarium contains over 15000 specimens from 5 continents. The aquarium downstairs includes 500 species of aquatic flora and fauna. The museum is on rue Ste Catherine, close to Parc de la Pépinière.
Parc de la Pépinière
Parc de la Pépinière was founded by Stanislas in the 18th century, and was originally intended as a nursery to grow trees to be planted alongside the roads in the city. Its now a large open space, including a playground, mini golf, cafés and a rose garden.
Lunéville
20 minutes from Nancy by train
The small town of Lunéville is east of Nancy. Lunéville is dominated by "Le Petit Versailles" a huge 18th century chateau which is now a museum. Lunéville was once famous for its ceramic tiles some of which can be seen in the museum.
