Visit Rostock
The city of Rostock is situated in the north German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
Rostock is home to one of the world's oldest universities and also the Academy of Music and Theatre which was founded more recently in 1994.
Polabian Slavs first settled in the area in the 11th century and the Danish king Valdemar I set the town on fire in 1161. Thereafter, Rostock became home to German traders.
Attractions in the city include the 13th century St Mary's church, the 15th century Gothic house known as the Kerkofhaus and the Town Hall built in a brick Gothic style. An astronomical clock built by Hans Düringer in 1472 is contained within St Mary's church.
Annual events in the city include the Rostocker Hafenfest, the Boulevardfest and the Kurfilmfestival FiSh. There are also many cultural events throughout the summer.
Visitors to Rostock will have the opportunity to visit the city's many art galleries, museums, theatres and its zoo.
