See the Gulbenkian Orchestra in Lisbon

Classical music fans will be able to experience an evening of orchestral work as the Gulbenkian Orchestra performs in Lisbon.

Running from October last year to May this year, various dates will be held when the musical group comes to the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation on each Thursday, Friday and some Saturdays.

The group will perform a number of pieces, including those by renowned soloists, and led by musical director Lawrence Foster.

An upcoming Saturday date in May for the Gulbenkian Orchestra is May 23rd, with the group also putting on a Sunday performance – making it the ideal weekend to visit Lisbon.

Weekday performances are also being held throughout the month, with the last being on Friday May 29th, where the orchestra is sure to go all out for its final concert of the season.

The group is part of the Gulbenkian's Education for the Arts Programme, for which it will host ten performances throughout the season, with the scheme aiming to get more disabled people into the music industry.

Highlights of this year's concerts include performances of Benjamin Britten's War Requiem, Giocchino Rossini's Stabat Mater and Felix Mendelssohn’s Elijah.

A number of conductors will also take to the stage for the season, including Simone Young as the principal guest conductor, Joana Carneiro as guest conductor, with appearances from Gustavo Dudamel, John Axelrod, Giancarlo Guerrero and Joseph Pons.
