What to do and see in and around Bonn
Beethoven House
The Beethoven House, where Beethoven was born in 1770, offers an extensive collection reflecting the thoughts and creativity of the great composer, including portraits, original manuscripts and first editions of his major works. The building is well preserved and offers visitors a historic atmosphere.
Kunstmuseum Bonn
Bonn Museum of Modern Art is one of many museums along the “Museum Mile”. The museum shows 20th century art and offers two main exhibitions, "August Macke and the Rhenish Expressionist" and "German Art after 1945".
Museum of the History of the Federal Republic of Germany
The Museum’s permanent collection is dedicated to the history of Germany from the end of World War II until present day. Over 7000 exhibits are on display, including an original cinema from the 50’s, Honecker’s arrest warrant and parts of the Berlin Wall.
Museum Alexander Koenig
The Museum Alexander Koenig is one of Germany’s largest natural history museums. The museum was founded in 1912 by Bonn zoologist Alexander Koenig and gives visitors a fascinating insight into the diversity of the animal world.
Art and Exhibition Hall of the Federal Republic of Germany
The Art and Exhibition Hall puts on temporary exhibitions, film screenings and theatrical performances. The striking building features three light spires, a roof garden and a series of columns representing the 16 federal states of Germany.
Altes Rathaus
Standing in the market square is Bonn’s beautiful Old Town Hall which was built in 1738 under the rule of Elector Clemens August. Many prominent guests have been photographed on the buildings impressive outside steps.
Münsterbasilika
Standing on Bonn’s Münsterplatz is the 900-year old Minster Basilica. The Basilica is an impressive example of Rhenish architecture capturing the transition from Romanesque to Gothic style. The Romanesque cloister built in the 12th century is well worth a visit.
Rhenish Friedrich-Wilhelm University of Bonn
The University of Bonn is housed in a beautiful former residential palace and was founded in 1818. The impressive building boasts a striking façade and offers an exceptional environment for its 30,000 students.
Poppelsdorf Palace and Botanical Gardens
The imposing Poppelsdorfer Palace is the former summer residence of Elector Clemens August. The Palace is surrounded by the Botanical Gardens, boasting 11 greenhouses and with one of the largest selections of different plant species in Germany.
Rheinaue Leisure Park
The park is situated in the geographical heart of the city. Attractions include a boating lake, a Japanese garden and a vineyard. Walk along one of the park’s many footpaths, no less than 45km in total!
