Christmas in Zurich

The city of Zurich enters into the festive spirit as the city decks itself out with garlands and lights.

The traditional Hauptbahnhof, Europe's largest indoor Christmas market, is the perfect place for visitors to find some stocking fillers, from hand-carved craft items, to colourful trinkets and delicacies such as Swiss chocolate.

Marketers come from around Europe to take part in the city's Christkindli Markt, which is famed for the wide variety of food on offer, including wonderful St Nicholas pastries, delicious butter cookies and of course spiced Gluhwein (mulled wine) to wash it all down.

For the children, every day feels like Christmas as the so-called Fairytale Tram passes through the streets of Zurich, carrying Santa himself. There is also a gigantic Christmas tree containing over 6,000 Swarovski crystal decorations erected in the centre of the city.

The festive season in Zurich provides visitors on a short break with an ideal opportunity to indulge themselves, enjoying the various foods on offer and also picking up gifts for family and friends in time for Christmas.
