Sand in the City in Vienna

Thu 15 May 2008 - Sun 7 Sep 2008

Can't decide whether to go for the relaxation of the beach or the sights of the city this summer? Then head to Vienna, where both are on offer during Sand in the City, from May 15th and September 7th.

Sand in the City is an initiative that sees more than 6,000 sq m of the Austrian capital transformed into a summer coastline, offering a wealth of activities to entice sun-seekers outdoors.

Following on from the success of last year's inaugural programme, this year is expected to make Vienna's third district yet more popular. One of the most mouth-watering prospects for 2008 is the opening of 14 beach bars by some of the city's top gastronomists.

If you have had your fill of food, then a trip to the spa and wellness area could be more inviting. A Jacuzzi, swimming pool and massage service all await those looking to unwind.

For the more active, there are plenty of opportunities to partake in a little beach football or volleyball. What's more, all of the action from this year's European championships will be broadcast on screens at the beach bars.

Sand in the City offers a perfect chance to enjoy a city break as well as relaxing in the sunshine. It is also a great distraction for anybody whose country won't be playing in this year's premier football event.

Take a short break in Vienna.
