Female Blues in Turin

Mon 20 Oct 2008 - Fri 12 Dec 2008

The Italian city of Turin and its surrounding towns will transform to the melodic sounds of female blues musicians and singers with Blues al Femminile from October 20th to December 12th this year.

Now in its 18th year, the event showcases African-American blues at its best, with a range of performers appearing at venues across Turin and other locations in the Piedmont region.

These include the Edye Evans Hyde Sextet bringing their jazz-soul offering on October 25th to the Piccolo Regio Puccini, while the Alexis P Suter Band play at the same venue on November 15th and Hollywood and Broadway Blues: The Musical to Women is set to show at the Cinema Marx Brothers on November 4th.

Eyde Evans Hyde's sound, which kicks off the proceedings, is described as "the versatile jazz-soul … typical of many of the Midwest" on the event's official website.

Other acts are the Gospel Singers Selvys and Faye and her Quartet.

In total thirty concerts will be given in Piedmont over the festival period, taking place in theatres, cultural centres and churches.

According to Turismo Torino e Provincia, other events going on in Turin over the coming months include the Salone Internazionale del Gusto food festival from October 23rd to 27th and the Contemporary Arts Torino Piemonte from November 6th to January 11th.
