Bachfest in Salzburg
Sat 4 Oct 2008 - Mon 20 Oct 2008
The 83rd Bach Music Festival, known more commonly as Bachfest, takes place in the Austrian city of Salzburg from October 4th until 20th.
Organised by the German Bach Society, the annual event is a celebration of one of the world's most renowned composers.
When it comes to Salzburg, many may ordinarily think of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. However, Bachfest aims to show that, during the Baroque period, Salzburg played a leading role in the world of classical music that goes far beyond the work of Mozart.
During Bachfest, performances and concerts will take place at various venues throughout Salzburg's excellently preserved Baroque town centre such as the Residenz Palace, the Hohensalzburg Fortress and the Mirabell Palace, with its extensive gardens.
Bachfest is arranged into five different categories: Bach and Jazz, Bach and Modern Music, Bach and Baroque, Bach and the Youth and finally Bach and Literature.
Other attractions that may be of interest to those visiting Salzburg include the Folklore Museum, the Salzburg Baroque Museum, the Mönchsberg Museum of Modern Art and the Hellbrunn Pleasure Palace.
