Prague Winter Festival

The capital city of the Czech Republic is set to transform with a programme of cultural and entertainment events with the Prague 2009 Winter Festival from January 2nd to 7th.

Now in its 37th year, the occasion offers opera, ballet and classical music performances across a range of different venues, including The Prague State Opera, The National Theatre and the Dvorak Hall of the Prague Rudolfinum, according to the official website.

The five-day event showcases the city's "world-famous" offerings, the site says, in settings which are among the "most stunning" in Europe.

Shows include Don Giovanni in The Estates Theatre, Swan Lake and Turandot in the Prague State Opera, The Nutcracker in The National Theatre, as well as recitals from the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra at the Dvorak Hall.

In addition to ticketed events, the city offers attractions such as the Black Light Theatre, tours of the Old Town, offering its medieval astronomical clock and horse and cart rides, and Prague Castle with the adjoining St Vitus Cathedral.
