For a series of musical performances set against the grandest of backdrops, the Brussels Summer Festival - running from August 21st to 31st - takes some beating.

Traditionally, this celebration has been held in the Grote Markt - which is situated in the heart of the Belgian capital. This year, however, there has been a change which promises to make the open-air festival bigger than ever.

A number of evenings have been planned to take place at the Place des Palais opposite the Royal Palace in 2008. Events here will continue to afford the perfect opportunity to enjoy the last evenings of summer in the most beautiful of settings, but will now involve even more spectators and performers.

These nights will involve an admission fee, but there will still be a host of free events taking place across Brussels, ensuring that all comers can enjoy the diversity of musical styles that will be on offer.

Typically, the line-up of the Brussels Summer Festival is impressively varied, with acts ranging from old-time jazz to modern dance music appearing on the roster. Performers from across the globe are invited to play, with the UK's Afro Celt Sound System and France's Gotan Project having appeared in recent years.
