Christmas Markets in Bruges

The mediaeval city of Bruges is filled with hustle and bustle every year as the Christmas markets arrive.

Providing visitors with the opportunity to find some beautiful, hand-made crafts, as well as superb local produce such as traditional Belgian chocolate, the Bruges Christmas markets have something for everyone. It is also one of the most picturesque scenes in the world, particularly when lightly dusted with snow.

Festive stalls set up in a number of places around the city, but the main destination for shoppers is the central Market Square. Here, stallholders selling local crafts group around an open air ice rink which is established for the Christmas period.

There is also a smaller market on Simon Stevinplein which is often a little quieter than the one in the main square, providing a chance for shoppers to enjoy checking out the stalls in a more relaxed environment.

One of the best times to see the Christmas markets in Bruges is during the evening, as the sun's light is replaced by the many coloured lights which adorn the stalls, bathing the markets in a festive glow.

The Christmas markets of Bruges make winter an ideal time to take a short trip to the city, as its renowned beauty is added to by the busy stalls and the atmosphere they create.
