Bologna City of Food Festival
Mon 1 Sep 2008 - Tue 30 Sep 2008
The Bologna City of Food Festival is an impressive culinary event running for three days in the latter half of September each year.
Originally conceived in 2003, the three-day food spectacular has grown to become one of the city's most mouth watering events. It brings together Bologna's food loving populace with chefs, street vendors and thousands of hungry visitors.
The city is cleverly dissected into different sections with various streets and squares each hosting a particular Bolognese delicacy. Among the classic Italian dishes visitors can expect to try are mortadella, tortellini, tagliatelle, lasagne and the famous cotechino – a Piedmontese pork sausage.
A number of stalls in the city also serve bollito misto, another classic Bolognese dish comprising of a soup cooked with seven different kinds of meat, vegetables and condiments.
There are also a number of stalls selling local wine and providing stools for tired visitors to rest their feet. Well-respected vineyards include Sangiovese di Romagna, Lambrusco di Modena and Pignoletto dei Colli Bolognesi. Eagle-eyed visitors who spot one of these labels are advised to pull up a pew and sample the locally produced wine while watching the frenetic pace of the food market pass them by.
