International Berlin Beer Festival

Lovers of German beer take note: the International Berlin Beer Festival is set to return once again between August 1st and 3rd.
Now entering its 12th year, the festival takes place on the Karl-Marx-Allee in Berlin Friedrichshain. The city's 'beer mile' stretches 2.2 km from Frankfurter Tor to Strausberger Platz - which organisers claim makes it the world's longest beer garden.
Each year, the spotlight falls on a different beer-producing region at the event, though that by no means limit's the scope of what is on offer. The pumps at the festival pour around 1,750 different brews, concocted by more than 240 breweries from 80 different countries - with each beer only served once.
Meanwhile, new concoctions are welcomed at every event, such as Gurkha beer from Nepal.
As well as the flowing drinks, there is much to keep the quarter of a million visitors to this free festival coming back for more. All along the mile, stages bring live music and entertainment to the happy drinkers in great spirits.
The International Beer Festival harks back to the days when the city was synonymous with fine brewing. Some of the German empire's most influential brewers were based in Berlin during Germany's imperial peak.
A trip to the festival also allows the opportunity to sample the architecture of the Karl-Marx-Allee, which preserves the socialist neo-classical style of the 50s, encapsulated in the twinned towers at the Frankfurter Tor end.
