Festival of Lights in Berlin

The annual Festival of Lights takes place in the German capital Berlin from October 14th to 26th.

Thousands of visitors are expected to see the historic city bathed in light and marvel at the illuminations and firework displays.

Famous landmarks featuring in the festival include the TV Tower in Alexander Platz, which is bathed in electric blue light, and the tree-lined Unter den Linden boulevard which will be a sea of gold.

Other major attractions in the city including the Brandenburg Gate, the new Kranzler buildings and the Dom Aquaree will also be colourfully lit.

Berlin is awash with hundreds of fascinating cultural and historical attractions from the Reichstag parliament building and the Berlin Cathedral, to the numerous art galleries and the haunting Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe.

The city plays host to numerous cultural events including the Annual German-American Festival of the People, the Long Night of the Museums and the Berlin Gauklerfest.

At the end of the year, why not welcome in 2009 at the Brandenburg Gate? Every New Year, thousands of people gather at the historic gateway to celebrate the passing of another year.
