Strasbourg - 'a distinctive city'
16th November 2007
The French city of Strasbourg is famous for many things, not least its links to European politics.
Within its city boundaries, Strasbourg houses the European Parliament buildings, as well as the European Court of Human Rights, making it an ideal trip for the high-brow traveller.
Bearing this in mind, along with its strong cultural links to Germany, the destination has been described as somewhat "distinctive" by Strasbourg.info.
The website suggests that this character is formed through the mixture of French charm found in the old parts of the city and the awe-inspiring German architecture scattered across the centre.
Additionally, as the city is situated on the banks of the river Rhine, visitors are ensured views of charming buildings and quaint villages all along the major European waterway.
For the culture vultures heading to Strasbourg, the Musée d'Art moderne et contemporain could appeal. Having been open for close to ten years now, the place has developed into an important home for some of the best European modern artwork.
Permanent collections include the work of Gustave Doré, Jean Arp, Max Ernst and Vassily Kandinsky. The museum also has a tour and library, which allow tourists to find out more about the city and the art it produces.
Take a break in Strasbourg.
