Things to do and see in Seville
14th August 2008
For lovers of Hispanic culture, Seville is a great holiday destination for those who want to get a real taste of Spanish life.
The city is awash with historic ruins and atmospheric old churches for those who like to go on a thorough exploration.
Running through the city is the Guadalquivir river, perfect for idle strolls away from the traffic. Head north from the river and you come to the picturesque María Luisa which was built for the 1929 Ibero-American fair.
Nearby are the gardens of Alcázar, with its eighth-century fortress, including the later additions constructed by Pedro the Cruel in the 1360s.
One of the symbols of Seville that is a must on any tourists itinerary has to be the Giralda, a minaret that once belonged to a mosque and that offers great views out over the city.
The are numerous great restaurants throughout Seville including the Horno de San Buenaventura on Avenida de la Constitución, La Albahaca at Plaza Santa Cruz and Las Piletas at Marqués de Paradas.
On New Year's Eve, thousands of people will gather in La Plaza Nueva and, as traditional dictates, eat 12 grapes representing the last 12 seconds of the old year.
Visit sunny Seville.
