Fall in love with Rome
21st March 2006
Rome is one of the most fascinating and magical cities in the world, capturing the heart of people who visit each year. With fabulous history on view around every corner, magnificent architecture, exuberant fountains and wonderful churches, the so-called Eternal City offers so much that many visitors cannot help but return on again and again to soak up the city's charm.
With so many famous attractions, it can be difficult to know where to begin in Italy's capital, but don't miss a visit to the awe-inspiring Colosseum. The spectacular amphitheatre dates back to 72 AD and conjures up images of gladiatorial battles.
Equally, it would be scandalous to miss throwing a coin over your left shoulder into Rome's largest and most famous fountain, Fontana di Trevi, which is meant to guarantee a quick return to the city.
The Vatican is yet another highlight, although it is actually an independent state. It contains the incredibly huge St Peter's Basilica and the magnificent Sistine Chapel, featuring Michelangelo's Last Judgement. The stunning Vatican Museums contain a fantastic collection of paintings, marble busts, tapestries and sculptures.
Marcus Agrippa's Pantheon is one of the world's architectural highlights, with its extraordinary dome thrilling its many visitors, while a walk through the maze of streets of Trastevere will offer an insight into Roman daily life.
Rome has a wealth of magnificent attractions and beautiful parks, world-class restaurants and lively nightlife on offer. A visit to the Eternal city will undoubtedly be an unforgettable one.
