Prague Winter Festival

4th September 2006

From January 2nd to 6th, the beautiful city of Prague becomes a backdrop for an impressive music festival.

The Prague Winter Festival sees some of the Czech Republic's top classical performers playing at some of the city's most impressive public buildings, including the National Museum, Municipal House and the Theatre of the Estates.

Celebrating its 35th year in 2007, the festival will see performances from the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, along with the National Theatre Opera and Ballet Departments.

Among the highlights on this year's programme are the opera Don Giovanni, which was composed by Mozart especially for Prague, Tchaikovsky's ballet Onegin and Rudolfinum, a collection of work by composers Trojan, Tchaikovsky and Dvorak played by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra.

Perhaps the most spectacular event, however, takes place on Saturday, January 6th, when a stunning gala fireworks display on the picturesque Charles Bridge marks the end of the festival.

This festival provides visitors with a wonderful opportunity to enjoy some of the finest music from the Czech Republic as well as seeing some of Prague's most impressive sights.
