Prague – Central Europe's Gem

31st August 2006

Prague has established itself as Central Europe's most popular destination with good reason – steeped in history and with a wide variety of attractions, this not-so-hidden gem continues to delight its guests. Visitors will experience a beautiful and cultural city mixed with friendly and enterprising locals who dot Prague picturesque squares and city centre.

Historically the ancient capital of Charles IV's kingdom, Prague has developed as a culturally enriched city complete with many stylish hotels and restaurants where visitors can relax and enjoy their stay.

Prague city centre is divided in four districts: The New Town which circles around Wenceslas Square, the neighbouring Old Town Quarter, the Jewish Quarter and the Lesser Quarter which plays host to one of the city's most popular attractions, Prague Castle.

The castle - around 570 metres high and 130 metres wide – contains the impressive crown jewels of the Bohemian Kingdom and was historically home to Holy Roman Emperors and Czech kings, although it now houses the Prague presidential offices.

Architecture fans will be in their element in Prague with a wide variety of beautiful building spanning the styles of Art Nouveau, Baroque, Renaissance, Gothic, Cubist and Neo-Classical.

A day's walking to appreciate Prague's sights is a tiring but ultimately rewarding, experience. The Old Town Square dates back to the 12th century and is one of many wonderful places to finish a day of discovering Prague.
