More to Pisa than the Leaning Tower
2nd January 2008
When thinking of well-known landmarks around the world, there are not many more famous than the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
Situated in the city's Piazza dei Miracoli, translated in English as the Square of Miracles, the tower has a notable inclination that for years was thought to be constructed on purpose.
It has since emerged that the tower was meant to be vertical, but its uniqueness attracts millions of viewers every year - many of whom pose for pictures in front of it, making it look as if they are holding the structure up with their bare hands.
However, it is not just the tower that brings tourists in from around the world - there are a number of other attractions offered by the north-west Italian city.
Beautiful squares are scattered across the region, offering visitors a glimpse into the city's history. One of which is Knight's Square, which highlights some of the country's most impressive architecture.
Additionally, a wide range of museums have been placed in Pisa, allowing those in the city to peruse sculptures, paintings and other pieces of art from some of the most well-known artists Italy has produced.
