Paris Christmas Markets
6th September 2006
The festive markets which spring up across Paris from November through to December 24th provide a wonderful attraction for visitors to the city during winter.
Offering a wide variety of local produce, French food appears high on the list of items traditionally sold at the markets. Among other gems are craft items which often make ideal Christmas presents, as well as Christmas decorations and other trinkets.
More than ten markets are established across Paris during the festive period and they offer a unique way to see the city, lining the streets and lighting up the Seine with their colourful lights.
Perhaps one of the most impressive markets is the one at La Defense region of the city, where there is even an ice rink established for visitors to take time out from their shopping to either take to the ice or, for the less adventurous, simply watch skaters from the side.
Les Halles in the city centre is another of the more famous traditional markets and offers visitors a wonderful array of shopping opportunities. Many people from across France come here to do their Christmas shopping and all manner of gifts can be found, from chocolates to more unusual art and craft items.
Paris is a beautiful place to visit all year round, but the Christmas markets make it an ideal place to take a short break ahead of the festive period, whether you are looking for the ideal Christmas present or simply want to indulge yourself!
