Paris Autumn Festival

15th September 2006

From September 14th until December 19th, Paris puts on a host of cultural events which provide visitors with a splendid selection of things to do.

Established in 1972, the festival covers a host of contemporary art forms, including opera, theatre, film, dance and performing arts. Some excellent productions are put on during the season, such as music compositions by Brahms and Beethoven.

Each year, the programme is given a theme. In 2005 it was dubbed the Year of Brazil and many of the events which were put on encompassed a Brazilian flavour, with samba music and dancing featuring particularly prominently.

This year, the theme is far more wide-ranging, as it focuses on the American Scene and Mongolia.

Some of the highlights to look out for at this year's festival include works by British talents, composer George Benjamin and playwright Martin Crimp, as well as performances of Hamlet by the Wooster Group.

The Paris Autumn Festival offers something for everyone to enjoy, making the city an ideal place for a short break during the winter months.
