Grand Ballets Canadiens de Montréal in Paris

1st July 2008

From July 21st until August 9th, dance enthusiasts visiting Paris will be able to enjoy breathtaking performances by the Grand Ballets Canadiens de Montréal.

The ballet ensemble will be in residence at the Grand Palais for three weeks as part of the Les étés de la danse de Paris festival.

Established in 2005, the annual event aims to enrich the cultural life of the French capital during the summer by showcasing the very best the dance world has to offer. More than 20,000 spectators were attracted to the very first event, while over 50,000 - both French and foreign - attended the second in 2006 which featured 25 performers.

Previous festivals have featured the San Francisco Ballet and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre. The 2008 season promises to be bigger and better.

This year's festival also comprises part of Québec city's 400th anniversary celebrations.

The prestigious Grand Ballets Canadiens de Montréal is led by Gradimir Pankov and seeks to make classical and modern ballet accessible to everyone. It will present the pieces Minus One, Toot, Six Dances, Les quatre saisons and Cantanta, by the choreographers Oha Naharin, Didy Veldman, Stjin Celis, Jiri Kylian and Mauro Bigonzetti.

The festival also includes exhibitions, performances and a multimedia show.
