Fascinating and charismatic Nancy
24th May 2006
Nancy is a fabulous city located in France's north-east corner, with charming beauty, intriguing history, excellent food and wonderful architecture.
A great place to begin a visit to Nancy is the Place Stanislas. This stunning square has a statue of King Stanislas in its centre, the Fountains of Neptune and Amphitrite and ornate wrought-iron gates, and is a great place to watch the world go by.
Architecture fans are advised to head to Nancy's neoclassical and baroque cathedral, which houses statues dating back to the 15th century and a painted cupola featuring 150 biblical figures.
The Musée des Beaux-Arts consists of a fantastic collection of European art from the 15th to the 20th century, including works by artists such as Picasso, Rubens and Rodin and a fabulous exhibition of Daum glassware.
For a relaxing break from sightseeing, the Pépinière Park is ideal, with a small zoo, mini-golf, puppet theatre, children's playground and catering outlets all featured in the vast park. The Montet Botanic Gardens are also recommended for those wishing to view over 10,000 species of plants.
With all this on offer and so much more, Nancy makes the perfect destination for a city break for people of all ages and tastes.
