Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich

Munich's Pinakothek der Moderne is found in the city centre alongside the Alte and Neue Pinakotheks and is one of the most impressive and important Modern Art museums in Europe.

The complex, which took seven years to construct, is made up of four separate sections – art, architecture, design and graphic works. Each of these areas contains some of the finest examples of 20th and 21st century art.

Exhibitions on show in the art sector include displays of photography and Modernist Art, with highlights including pieces by Matisse, Magritte and Baselitz. The Museum of Architecture holds over 350,000 drawings as well as 500 models, featuring blueprints from famous French architect Le Corbusier.

The Collection of Design focuses on industrial projects and includes studies of automotive design as well as computer culture over the past 25 years.

Graphic works showcased include a look at how some of the world's finest artists planned their masterpieces. Drawings by Hockney and Cezanne are contrasted with earlier blueprints from Albrecht Durer and da Vinci.

Exhibitions planned for the coming year include two separate displays of the work of Max Beckmann, as well as an examination of works of architecture featured in literary and fictional works. The huge variety of artistic work on display makes the Pinakothek der Moderne an ideal place to visit on a relaxing break.
