With a reputation as one of the most stylish cities in the world, Milan makes an excellent choice for a short city break.

Known worldwide for its leading high fashion and excellent boutiques, Milan is a shopoholic's paradise, with many visitors spending an entire weekend prowling the shopping streets of the city searching for a special purchase or once-in-a-lifetime bargain.

Throughout the year Milan also holds host to a range of exciting and leading fashion events, with the latest collections paraded on the catwalk.

Shopping is not the only pleasure however, with theatre and cinema also extremely popular, and the choice of nightlife and restaurants is hard to beat.

For those wishing to see a different side to Milan, one of the highlights of the city is the huge and impressive Milan Duomo, which is one of the largest cathedrals in the world and a gothic treasure, with a forest of spires, marble pinnacles and pillars.

Many art galleries and museums are on offer in the city, including the Pinacoteca di Brera Gallery, containing one of Italy's most important collections of art, while the Civica Galleria d'Arte Moderna is thought of as one of the finest museums in Europe, holding works by Matisse, Picasso and Grassi.

Milan is a good location to pick up international railway connections to Switzerland and France, in addition to all major Italian cities, making it a top choice for a rail holiday.
