The Museum of Contemporary Art in Lyon

Found in Lyon's unique Cité Internationale district, the Musée d'Art Contemporain hosts works from a variety of late 20th century artists and is frequently first to illustrate the latest trends in the art world.

The building was designed by Renzo Piano, the architect behind the design of the Pompidou Centre in Paris as well as the forthcoming Shard skyscraper in London.

The museum was opened in 1985 and maintains a huge variety of exhibitions via its flexible structure. Permanent collections are rejected in favour of experimental displays, which provide constantly original experiences. Unique exhibitions can be easily created and catered for as the inner walls of the building can all be dismantled and rebuilt at will.

Having been closed for redesign since the beginning of the year, the museum will re-open on February 16th with a number of new exhibitions. The main attraction will be Fabien Verschaere's Seven Days Hotel exhibit, which runs until April 29th and transforms the museum into a fantastical hotel.

Other attractions on display from February include a selection of installations from Swiss artists born in the 1960s, as well as work by Hungarian architect Yona Friedman.

The outside of the building features a unique projection, as images and video clips of the city are displayed for passers-by to examine, and with so many fascinating exhibits found on the inside the museum is an ideal attraction for visitors enjoying a relaxing break in Lyon.
