Lyon's Festival of Lights
3rd October 2006
On December 8th every year, the people of Lyon congregate to witness one of the most impressive events in the region's calendar.
Every house in the centre of the city is illuminated, with lanterns and lights glowing from the windows.
However, the focus of this festival is the big parade which takes place through the heart of Lyon. Held by lantern-light, the procession makes its way through the city's streets, arriving at the centre where a number of events take place, including a concert.
Such is the excitement which surrounds this festival that it has now been extended to become a four-day event, with concerts and similar activities taking place for four days prior to the procession itself.
The festival of lights has been taking place in the city since 1852 and has remained a special occasion in the lives of Lyon's inhabitants and is a beautiful way to spend an evening in the city while on a short break.
