Fall in love with Florence
14th March 2006
Florence is without question one of the most beautiful and atmospheric cities in the world, which although small, is a favourite destination of visitors from across the globe.
The cultural heritage, magnificent artwork and glorious historical charm of Florence are remembered by all who come to visit, with striking buildings, impressive galleries and wonderful churches all located within a small area.
It is impossible to visit Florence without seeing the Duomo (cathedral), with its imposing dome making a dramatic impact on the city's skyline, while the Santa Croce church is another architectural highlight.
A trip to Florence would not be complete without visiting Michelangelo's David at the Galleria dell'Accademia, while the Uffizi gallery has the greatest concentration of Italian art in the world, with pieces by Leonardo da Vinci, Botticelli and Giotto.
Florence is not only full of historic buildings and magnificent art, with the beautiful Boboli Gardens a perfect place to relax, containing the Neptune Fountain and incredible views over the city.
The city also offers many top restaurants providing mouth-watering local specialities, while the markets of Florence are always lively and interesting.
It is hard not to fall in love with Florence and being a major railway hub it is an easy and convenient destination to travel to and from, with direct trains heading in most directions, making it a perfect choice for a railway holiday.
