Experience the architecture of Florence
18th September 2008
Visitors to the elegant Italian Renaissance city of Florence could opt to travel there by a combination of air and rail to see even more of the sights the country has to offer.
Known as Firenze in the native tongue, the destination on the Arno river offers a wealth of cultural and historical attractions, from the dome of Santa Maria del Fiore cathedral to the marble sculpture of Bartolomeo Ammanati's Fountain of Neptune in the Piazza della Signoria.
It is the capital of Tuscany, known for its "special relationship with food and wine" which has produced such delicacies as La Fettunta bread washed down with a choice of Chianti, Vernaccia or Brunello, according to Choose Tuscany.
As for events, Florence offers the Painting Light - Hidden Techniques of the Impressionists exhibition at the Best Western Hotel Rivoli, the Creativity Festival at the Fortezza da Basso in October and the Festival dei Popoli which runs in November at the Convitto della Calza.
Lonely Planet describes the city as "one of Italy's most atmospheric and pleasant", so why wait?
Your trip could possibly be tied in with a stop-off in Venice by train to boost the holiday experience even further.
