The combination of natural beauty, medieval architecture, a rich cultural heritage and Swiss charm makes the south-western city of Bern a popular destination for a short break or an extended holiday.
Visitors of all ages and with myriad interests are likely to be kept entertained by everything that Switzerland's fourth most populous city has to offer.
Bern's medieval city centre is a Unesco World Heritage Site, with the destination's Zytglogge - an ancient clock tower featuring moving puppets - a big draw for visitors.
The traffic-free city centre also offers keen shoppers miles of retail therapy along cobbles streets and covered arcades.
Remaining in the city centre, visitors will be amazed to feel they are miles away from a busy metropolis. This is thanks to the central location of the city's Botanical Gardens - featuring some 6,000 plant species across two hectares - and numerous tranquil fountains that serve as reminders of historical events and heroes.
Bern is also home to a number of museums, where the city's rich history and that of the country are explored and display. One of Switzerland's most distinguished collections of historical artefacts is housed in the Historical Museum of Bern, which is a castle-like building.
The Einstein Museum gives a fascinating yet accessible insight into the life and thoughts of Albert Einstein, while Swiss art, antiquities, books, textiles and communications are among the other focus areas of Bern's museums.
Nightlife in the city also offers a host of options, from enjoying gastronomic Swiss delights to taking in a concert or partying until the early hours.
Visitors to Bern can benefit from the close proximity of the international Bern-Belp airport, located less than ten kilometres from the city centre.
