Berlin's Winter World

Every year as the festive period gets closer, one of the main squares in Berlin is transformed into a winter wonderland.
The famous Potsdamer Platz in the heart of the city hosts a wide selection of Christmas activities from November 5th to January 6th. Snow fills the square and visitors can enjoy skating on the outdoor ice rink which is specially set up for the occasion, or take part in sledging down the man-made slopes.
If the idea of sledging in the middle of the city is a little too surreal for your liking, there is always Potsdamer Platz's main attraction during the festive period – the Christmas market.
Filled with pretty lights and plenty of local products, such as wooden crafts and other trinkets, the market is an ideal place to look for Christmas gifts. There is also plenty of food on offer in the market, with mulled wine in abundance to help warm up shoppers and skaters alike.
Among the other attractions in the square are carousels, street entertainers and a toboggan run which offers those brave enough to have a go some spectacular views of the Brandenburg Gate.
