Berlin's New Year Run

For many people there is a 'morning after the night before' feel to New Year's Day, with most happy to sleep off the previous night's exertions. But for some in Berlin, this is not the case, preferring instead to get their running shoes on.
The Fun Run takes competitors along Unter den Linden, through the heart of the city and pass some of the most famous sights in Berlin, including the Brandenburg Gate and the Berlin Dom.
With such an impressive backdrop for the event, it is perhaps no surprise that over 3,500 people turn up to compete every year.
As the run is only four kilometres, it can be an ideal way for people to shake off the after-effects of ringing in the New Year, whether running or just using it as a pleasant way to stroll around the city's famous landmarks.
There is no registration fee, no winners and no losers, which means that the event is an ideal way to wake yourself up and go at your own pace, discovering Berlin from a new perspective.
