Barcelona International Jazz Festival
11th July 2006
Running between October and December every year, Barcelona's International Jazz Festival brings together some of the biggest names in the industry.
Barcelona is known for its love of jazz and is one of the best places in the world to enjoy jazz music at any time of year. But between October and December the city comes alive with the sound of the music, as laid back tunes fill the air in almost every part of Barcelona.
Already able to describe itself as one of the smoothest cities in Europe, Barcelona's jazz festival ensures that it can rightly be considered one of the cool capitals of the world. It is the longest-running and most respected festivals of its kind, allowing musicians and fans of jazz to come together to celebrate the genre.
There are a wide variety of styles on offer, from large bands and bebop, through to gospel music and smaller, more intimate performances.
Last year saw some of the top names in the industry arrive in Barcelona, with Richard Bona, Lee Konitz and Paquito D'Rivera all making appearances over the course of the event.
Although this year's line-up has yet to be announced, fans can be assured that it will offer another array of top talent at venues across the city. For those keen to learn more about jazz, there are also a number of workshops and masterclasses, where some of the top names are on hand to offer their expert advice and opinions.
