Rembrandt celebrated in Amsterdam

Throughout 2006 Amsterdam will be marking the 400th anniversary of the famous 17th century painter Rembrandt through a series of events and exhibitions.

One of the highlights of the celebration is the Rembrandt – Caravaggio exhibition, which is on show until June 18th.

The event will offer a unique chance to view the works of these two masters of Baroque painting side by side. Held at the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum, over 25 fantastic pieces have been borrowed from museums across the world to create this exceptional opportunity for art lovers.

The Essence of Rembrandt at Amsterdam Historical Museum from May 12th to August 13th and Rembrandt's Landscapes at the Municipal Museum De Lakenhal from October 6th to January 7th are just two of the many other exhibitions taking place.

Walking tours will be available throughout the year, taking visitors to many places which played a key part in Rembrandt's life. In addition, Rembrandt The Musical will be held at the Royal Carre Theatre from July 15th through to February 2007, giving an insight into his life.

With so many excellent events taking place throughout the year in the Dutch city to celebrate the life and works of the fantastic artist, hotels are sure to quickly become fully booked, making early planning a must!
