Celebrating the Renaissance in Amiens

31st July 2006

Visit Amiens in September when the Picardie Cathedral Renaissance Week offers an opportunity to enjoy the history and heritage of some of the most beautiful buildings in Amiens.

The mesmerising and world-renowned paved nave of Amiens Cathedral is one of the many architectural wonders in this city which is celebrated from September 12th to 15th.

Established in 1987, this festival brings together some of the most impressive architecture in France with excellent choral music. Performances are held in various Renaissance buildings which can be found dotted about Amiens.

Concerts of choral music are held at the picturesque Saint-Leu Church in Amiens, which was constructed in the 15th century.

Although the festival has been running in its current form for nearly 20 years, the city has a long tradition of hosting musical events in its many historical buildings.

This year's celebrations will be kicked off by Claudio Monteverdi's Cantus Colln and will be followed by Doulce Memoire, directed by Denis Raisin Dadre.

The celebration is an opportunity for visitors on a short break to Amiens to discover the city's architecture while enjoying some splendid musical performances.
