I was now half way through my itinerary, which had begun in Cologne before heading on to Munich and Budapest as described in my previous blog and, though I was looking forward to the prospect of visiting some new places, I was somewhat disappointed to be leaving Budapest and made a mental note to return at some point in the not too distant future.

A Passage to Transylvania

I am quite certain that in some of my readers’ minds Transylvania exists somewhere in the mythological space rather than on the surface of the Earth. Yet for others, once they realise Transylvania actually exists, it turns into a place in which to trace the very material inspiration for legends such as Dracula and Countess Bathory.

Taking the night train from Budapest to Bucharest

The Railbooker recently sampled the night train EN473 with the name ISTER (the Latin name for the River Danube) between Budapest and Bucharest. This daily service leaves Budapest Keleti Station at 19.10 and arrives into Bucharest Gari du Nord at 11.38 the following morning.
