Metropole Venice

January 25th, 2012

Entering the Metropole is like stepping out of one world and into the next. Juxtaposed with the busy outdoors, you are made to feel like you are entering a calm and peaceful place. To your left is the oriental bar featuring food by their 2 michelin starred chef. To your right is a large lounge area with comfortable chairs and a relaxing atmosphere. Out the back is a lovely private garden area which for winter was still partially in use thanks to a large marquee heated for outdoor comfort.

I was lucky enough to have lunch in the Metropole’s bar and as a bit of a foodie myself it was a real treat. Amazing service, delicious food and great wine in a comfortable setting, it’s an experience I would highly recommend.

Everything about this hotel seems unique. It was described to me as a house-museum, which is spot on. The hotel is family owned and their private collections, from fans to corkscrews, are exhibited throughout the public areas. All rooms are different, but the overall style of the rooms remains classically Venetian, but at the same time modern. The rooms are extremely welcoming and cozy (though not small!) with soft colours, plus silk and velvet finishings. For those looking for something more extravagant though, some of the suites are very ornate.

The Metropole is a real luxury 5 star hotel and it has a great location as well. Just a few minutes walk up the road from Saint Mark’s Square and past the Bridge of Sighs. Near enough to be accessible and far enough away to be quiet. This also means that the hotel has a lovely view facing the lagoon and San Giorgio Maggiore.
