There is not much the staff at the De Tuilerieen would not do for their customers. Maybe bears riding tricycles is too much to ask, but only just. Still, the service is genuinely friendly, not the typical service one might expect in a top hotel – no fake smiles and bowing heads.
The hotel itself is a 15th century mansion but with all the modern amenities you would expect of one of Bruges’ top hotels. I enjoyed a dip in the hotel’s indoor swimming pool. All rooms have high speed internet access, and one can request a laundry service. De Tuilerieen’s main building has 25 rooms with original Venetian crystal glass windows, which frame the view to the Den Dijver canal. The Hotel’s executive and junior suites are located on the “modern side” of the building.
These rooms are definitely worth the extra as the size increases considerably without losing any of the old charm of the building. They have inviting big beds, huge bathrooms and a décor straight from a Jane Austen novel. On weekends De Tuilerieen’s award winning breakfast (voted best in the Benelux), with champagne and a chocolate fountain, is served until noon. On sunny days it can be enjoyed on their terrace.
De Tuilerieen also has an intimate restaurant fusing French and Flemish food. On request, the staff can organise the restaurant to be closed for private use with a special menu produced to please their diners’ every whim. If the hotel’s ‘Hall of Fame’ can be used as a reference, celebrities such as Colin Farrell and Ralph Fiennes (stars of the ‘In Bruges’ film) have enjoyed their stay in the grand De Tuilerieen – it’s probable that you are going to as well!
