Press Release: Venetian December

Tuesday 27th November 2007

You may not associate Venice with winter but there is no better time to visit this elegant city than December, when the hordes of summer tourists have left, the air is cool and crisp and the Venetians regain their city.

Enjoy a warming coffee on St Mark’s Square then wander through the streets admiring the wonderful architecture and taking in the sights of Venice, such as the gothic Ca’ d’Oro (House of Gold) and the imposing façade of the Palazzo Ducale or the  Doge’s Palace.

This December is also your last chance to see the fascinating Le Macchine di Leonardo da Vinci.  This exhibition displays 40 models made by the Niccolai firm based on the designs of Da Vinci himself and made up of 15th century materials such as wood, cotton, brass, iron and cord. Da Vinci was fascinated by mechanics and his designs include a glider, catapault and a hydraulic saw, all ideas way ahead of his time. Le Macchine di Leonardo da Vinci is running at the Chiesa di San Barnaba in Venice until the 31st December. Entrance price is 6 euros.

Visit Venice with Railbookers and stay at the 4* Giorgione Venice from £409 per person including breakfast and return train travel. This traditional family run hotel was originally an 18th century confectionary warehouse and is located close to the Rialto Bridge and St Mark’s Square.
