Press Release: Pop over to Rome
Tuesday 6th November 2007
If you know your Warhol from your Lichtenstein, your Hamilton from your Blake then you are likely to be familiar with a little known artistic movement called Pop Art.
Visit the eternal city this autumn and enjoy a riot of colour as the Scuderie del Quirinale museum (also known as the Papal Stables) displays Pop Art from 1956 – 1968. Using the medium of painting, sculpture and collage, artists expressed the popular culture of the time through the movement of Pop Art, depicting dynamic subjects such as Marilyn Monroe, John F Kennedy and the Coca Cola logo.
With major works on loan from leading institutions such as the Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Hayward Gallery in London and the S.M.A.K. in Ghent “Pop Art! 1956-1968” presents the unique opportunity to see an iconic collection of artwork all in one place. This wonderful exhibition runs until 27th January 2008. Tickets are priced at 10 euros per person.
When you have finished exploring the 20th century, travel further back in time and see the sights of the Roman Empire. Imagine you are one of the thousands of spectators watching the gladiators fight to the death in the Colosseum; marvel at the Pantheon built by Marcus Agrippa in 27 B.C. or discover the political and commercial epicentre of ancient Rome at the Forum.
Visit Rome with Railbookers and stay at the 3* Adriano Hotel from just £429 for 2 nights accommodation, including breakfast and return train travel. This comfortable hotel is just a short walk away from Rome’s main sights and attractions.
