It’s time for the party hats to go on, the streamers to come out and the glasses to be filled, for this summer Munich reaches the grand old age of 850!
From its origins as a monastery, Munich has evolved over the centuries into a vibrant city with a population of over a million people. The celebrations, entitled “Building Bridges” aims to explore Munich’s culture, past and present.
As well as general merrymaking three major events will be taking place. For two days, from June 14-15, Munich will enjoy the City Foundation Festival, when an assortment of cultural events will take place between Marienplatz, Stachus and Odeonplatz. From July 19-20 theatre lovers should head to the Old Town Ring Road Festival where they can indulge in two days of theatre and musical performances in a historic setting. The piece de resistance will be the exuberant Isar Bridge Festival, when visitors and inhabitants will be dancing on the beaches, listening to music under the bridges and marvelling at elegant light installations on the river.
