The time has come to get out your lederhosen, pick up your stein and enjoy a great Bavarian tradition at the 175th Munich Oktoberfest.  However with limited hotel rooms and exorbitant prices in Munich for this period, Railbookers recommends staying in one of the region’s other cities and travelling into Munich by train, no drinking and driving! From £499 for 4 nights including breakfast and return train travel, plus the opportunity to bring back as much beer as you can carry!

From September 20th to October 5th you can take your pick from 14 huge beer tents and join in a toast with the rest of Munich.  Accompany the beer with tasty Bavarian delicacies such as pretzels, and sausages with sauerkraut and suckling pig. Stay in the historic town of Augsburg, a mere 39 minute train journey from Munich and enjoy  5* treatment at the Steigenberger drei Mohren Hotel in Augsburg for 4 nights from £499 per person including breakfast and return train travel.

Alternatively stay in stunning Salzburg, just 1 hour and 30 minutes from Munich by train, where you can stay at the 5* Sheraton Salzburg Hotel for 4 nights with the 4th night free from £669 per person including breakfast and return train travel.

Eurostar trains run from London St Pancras International, Ebbsfleet International or Ashford International to Paris Gare du Nord. Eurostar runs from London St Pancras International to Paris in approximately 2 hours 15 minutes. At Paris Gare du Nord (where Eurostar arrives) transfer to Paris Gare de l’Est onto the Deutsche Bahn night train direct to Munich. In Paris leave at least 2 hours between the Eurostar arrival and the departure of the night trains to Munich. The average journey time for the overnight train is 10 hours. On arrival in Munich transfer to the hourly train to Salzburg - the journey time is 1 hour 50 minutes.
