Press Release: Back to Blighty
Tuesday 18th September 2007
This autumn the Ghent Museum of Fine Arts will be hosting the exhibition “British Vision. Observation and imagination in British Art, 1750 – 1950”. This unique exhibition spans two hundred years of British art, displaying works from well known names such as Hogarth, Blake, Fuseli, Constable, Turner, Spencer, Bacon and Hockney and exploring the distinctive character of the genre. The exhibition is open Tuesday – Sunday 10am – 6pm and runs from 6th October 2007 – 13th January 2008. Admission costs € 4 and is free on Sunday mornings until 1pm.
From all things British to all things Flemish, the beautiful medieval city of Ghent has plenty to keep you occupied. Visit the gothic St Bavo’s Cathedral with its famous 15th century alterpiece "The Adoration of the Mystic Lamb" painted in 1432 by Hubert and Jan van Eyck. Or imagine yourself as a courtier of the Count of Flanders at his 12th century residence, Gravensteen. This beautifully restored castle with its medieval moat is well worth a visit - just don’t go too near the dungeon. Alternatively you could take in some Belgian art at the Design Museum with its collection of Belgian decorative and applied arts.
