Press Release: Art in Vienna

Tuesday 25th September 2007

For those who appreciate the finer things in life Vienna’s Albertina Museum is essential on every art connoisseur’s itinerary. The exhibition, “Monet to Picasso - The Batliner Collection”, will be running until 6 April 2008 and is considered to be one of Europe’s leading private collections.

In May 2007 Rita and Herbert Batliner donated 500 works to the Albertina as a permanent loan. The Monet to Picasso exhibition will allow the general public access to 160 of these, including such masterpieces as “Waterlilly” by Monet and the "Young Woman in a Blouse" by Modigliani alongside works by Renoir, Cézanne, Chagall, Picasso, Matisse, Roy Lichtenstein and Francis Bacon. This exhibition will be supplemented by a further 130 pieces from the Albertina’s own collection.

Once you’ve exhausted the magnificent Albertina Museum, Vienna has plenty of other attractions to offer, such as the nearby Vienna State Opera House where you can continue your day of culture. For some living breathing art visit the Spanische Reitschule (Spanish Riding School), one of the oldest in the world, where you can see Lippizaner horses of Spanish origin performing to classical music in a magnificent Baroque hall in the Imperial Palace.
