Tunnel Vision
29th October 2007
On December 9th 2007 the world’s longest rail tunnel on land will become operational. Switzerland opened the Lötschberg Base Tunnel in a grand ceremony in June this year, but it is not until December that the tunnel will be officially operational.
The 21 mile Lötschberg Base Tunnel under the Alps will significantly reduce journey times in Switzerland, from Switzerland to Italy and from Northern Europe via Switzerland to Italy.
However for those who can’t wait until December 9th, from the present day to the 16th November the NEAT Express, a special event train, will be operational twice daily, once in the morning and once in the evening, with only first class travel available.
