See Montpellier by bicycle

31st March 2008

For an exhilarating way to experience Montpellier, why not try hiring a bicycle? From June 28th, visitors will have even more access to bikes as part of the Vélomagg programme.

A number of points will be set up allowing those travelling around the city to pick up a bicycle. In all, 19 stations will be in place for those looking to pedal their way around the city, with another 31 planned by the end of the year.

The scheme is part of a drive to encourage use of greener transport in Montpellier, but it could also be a good way to get to the city's sights more quickly than on foot. The cost of hire is €1 for four hours or €2 for a day.

To be eligible, all riders have to do is to leave a piece of ID as a deposit at one of the Vélomagg points. These can be located at the tourist office, car parks and various other locations around the city.

Once a bike has been acquired, visitors can then head around the many pedestrianised streets of Montpellier and explore the charming old town. There are many bicycle routes established in the city, with maps available from the tourist office.

Take a short break in Montpellier.
