New Galeries Lafayette in Lille

22nd October 2007

Shopping in Lille now has an extra touch of class with the opening of Galeries Lafayette, one of France's premier fashion retailers.

The latest store represents a new landmark for Galaries Lafayette, the company which was established by Théophile Bader and Alphonse Kahn in 1893. Over a hundred years of trading have seen it become one of France's most trusted and prestigious brands.

Visitors to Lille will now be able to purchase items at the cutting edge of fashion in a setting that goes beyond the traditional model of a department store.

For example, Galeries Lafayette in Lille comes complete with its own restaurant, Le Défile, at which visitors can relax with a bite and a glass of wine. Additionally, the Lafayette Café, which sits on the top floor of the building, affords spectacular views across the city.

What is more, this shopping experience is easily reachable to fashion hunters in the UK. Currently, Eurostar passengers can arrive in Lille just one hour and 40 minutes after leaving Waterloo. On November 14th, when the new Eurostar station opens at St Pancras International, that time will be cut to one hour and 20 minutes.

Commenting on the opening, Galaries Lafayette sales director Christophe Cann said: "We are delighted to be offering our UK clientele a stunning new store with an extensive fashion range and with the high levels of customer service that Galeries Lafayette is renowned for - only a short and convenient Eurostar journey away."

Enjoy a short break in Lille.
